Two sisters: one resides in the quiet country with her handsome newly-married husband; the other leaves for the nearby town where she falls into the trap of prostitution. Oozing of sexuality and destructive passion. Originally a Roberto Rossellini picture, then put on the shelf in the middle of the war, before Marcello Pagliero took over changed things around. With such difficulties during production, it's not surprising the story feels a little chopped-up. But with its continued short peaks, a strong female presence in Elli Parvo and her nipple, the drama had me enticed. Didn't matter about its shortcomings, for what was happening on-screen was vibrant.
