It doesn't seem to know if it wants to commit to being either a full out thriller or a character study, which as often results in both aspect done okay but not great. The movie is hurt mostly by a miscast William Hurt, who doesn't convince as the simpleminded janitor in over his head. The ending ties up all different plotlines too contrived.

A flat thriller with some really awful dialogue and a plot which hinges on an unbelievable contrivance. The cast is interesting, but William Hurt's manipulative courting of Sigourney Weaver just feels slimy.

Interesting characters and some solidacting from Plummer, Hurt and Woods. However, it suffers from an unconvincing poor guy/rich girl romance. The ending sucks.

Wait, why do people not like this movie? Terrific magnetic cast all playing to their strengths, great camerawork, great color palette, a nice sense of quirky and poignant detail, and Sigourney Weaver at her prettiest.

Now that's a sexy fucking janitor! Plot's all over the place but has some great character work spread throughout. The big finale had me rolling my eyes a bit - but at least the ride there was unpredictable enough to keep my attention.

It starts out quite well; fully-formed characters, good acting, and good directing, even if the plot is a bit slow. By the end it falls off the rails with several characters doing "convenient" things for the plot instead of staying within themselves. There are lots of big-name actors in this one but they couldn't save a plot that ran itself into an iceberg.
