The fight scenes - relatively few - are intermittently cool when they're not being broken by the jump-in-time edits & overdone "style". The whole film is far more concerned w/ "style" in fact w/ every scene draped in dark atmosphere & jittering w/ minor effects. It's both a simplistic revenge tale & women in prison film that guys are presumably meant to get off on but this is ugly throughout, almost torture porn in its languorous pans over every hurt the heroine suffers. I fast-forwarded it all.

The camerawork and editing had a decidedly early 2000s TV feel to them. This tried to be both a gritty HK film and a Japanese exploitation film and failed at both. The movie commits two of the biggest movie sins in my opinion. They wasted a surprisingly good cast and the movie itself was strangely dull considering the number of fights and violence.

This is what happens if some money worshipping non-artists free of any talent rape one of Toei's greatest franchises ever created. Whilst the original SASORI movie was a grim yet beautiful piece of art and definitively one of the better or maybe even the best movies of the pinky violence/wip-genre, the "remake" inversed all of the Original's qualities. This is a sacrilege and an offence to Shunya ITO, Meiko KAJI as well as the Women in prison film in general.
