The film opens in 1729. Lord Tangonokami Nabeshime of Saga Prefecture takes a fancy to a blind monk's sister, Sayo. Monk Matashichiro refuses to bow to Lord Nabeshime's lecherous interest in Sayo. The lord and chamberlain ultimately kill the monk during their regular game of Go. (mubi.com)

There is some great camera work here and a number of scenes are filmed in a more "horror" way than is usual for ghost/cat demon film of this time period. I love the effects used here, yes I know they use these same effects in most of these films but there is a real flare to how they're used in this film.
