Heart of a Dog

I can't say its good, but I also cannot deny that it is one of the most inspiring films I've ever seen, shallow as it may be.

Anderson really fumbles for that arthouse veneer in a labored filmic essay on dealing with death, expressed mostly by her affected speech in voiceover. I lost count of all the pages she rips from Jonas Mekas. She also pastes a bunch of the most overused Wittgenstein and Kierkegaard quotes, in disconnect with their philosophies (Ludo's she calls "cryptic"). Worst of all, she apparently let her dog suffer to death instead of putting her to sleep because her idiot spiritual teacher told her to.

....had this been about a cat however....

What's that line, "writing about music is like dancing about architecture?" I'm not always convinced by the parallels Anderson draws between her many topics, but she undeniably presents a vision that helps to make sense (and, perhaps, redeem) a world that's often bafflingly and pointlessly cruel; transmogrifying death into love, empathy and creativity.

visually kinda bland and it's a bit of a mixed bag but overall quite beautiful and moving to listen to
