JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass

Through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole... Where Stone's 1991 masterpiece can be read as an evocation or critique of an atmosphere of paranoia, this falls right into the gulag, making breathless, dizzying assertions and connections which feel more like crackpot YouTube ramblings at times. Stone's assemblage of this far-out material is still skillful enough for the film to be always watchable, and even entertaining, but not particularly edifying.

For close to 2 hours, Oliver Stone and associates hurl evidence and hypotheses (the abductive nature of these inferences is readily apparent) at the viewer, which makes for a highly stimulating and at times dizzying experience. By the end of the film, I was left with the impression that almost without a doubt the assassination of John F. Kennedy was a conspiracy led by the FBI/CIA/Secret Service. I'd instead have gone with someone like Peter Coyote or Tom Hanks for the role of narrator.

Bem, o Oliver Stone já tinha me convencido disso tudo ainda nos anos 90 quando do lançamento de seu longa ficcional (o qual, inclusive, tenho o blu-ray porque gosto muito), mas esse doc reverencia e romantiza demais a figura do JFK, pra quem passou metade da vida sabendo que o JFK já estava ciente do futuro golpe militar no Brasil meses depois, meio que essa exaltação é demais. Plus: Teorias da conspiração é tão anos 90, me senti o Fox Mulder de novo. Festival É Tudo Verdade.
