Mars & Avril

There's a touch of Jeunet about Mars et Avril, but the film's gets too wrapped up in pretentious visuals that it neglects a cohesive, engaging narrative. At times the film looks and sounds like a modern Doctor Who episode, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, for a film that wants to play with the idea of reality and the notion of soulmates, it does a poor job. The romance, the music and the drama are all underwhelming. The designs are the only things that stand out.
