A German silent which started out alright with a murderer on the run. The dame that helps him was small and bubbly. So that's the sweet and the ugly. However, after a promising start Nachtgestalten [The Alley Cat] (1929) turns rather stale and doesn't rediscover the excitement it started with. I mean, it's an alright film from Hans Steinhoff, but it definitely could have been handled better the second half, though it was fun seeing Clifford McLaglen getting a decent part as a baddie.
