Most British films had an American import in the 30s. This time all they could get their hands on was Wallace Ford. I guess they used all their spare cash on the other import for this movie. The very versatile director Raoul Walsh. Ford is alright for a little guy. Easy to like, but he's not exactly a heavyweight that'll draw you in for a big movie like this. Doesn't quite work. And they throw everything but the kitchen sink in this story and little engages to the degree it should.
