Once in Trubchevsk

Low-key, sleepy drama holds its cards a little too obtusely close to its chest in its telling of a low-key adulterous affair. Apart from its sometimes telling observations on the oppressive claustrophobia of a small town where everyone knows your business, there's a lack of fire and drama to the characters that make even the "revelation" scenes feel tamped-down and too contained. Lack of chemistry (or even interest) in its main characters another detriment.
