A potential companion piece to Los Angeles Plays Itself - not as eloquent or comprehensive as that film - tracing the chronology of the proverbial center of the universe; recounting the organic histories of landmark structures and reflecting somewhat superficially on transforming culture. Features a large and surprising cross-section of various artists and celebrities. Could benefit from a longer runtime to better support its dense assortment, and a sharper sense of self-aware criticism.

Had they spread this into a series and gone by decade in depth to the musical and other cultural significance, the whole thing would have worked a lot better. Instead you get glimpses of brilliance but also a lot of aging stars grumbling about how everything today is shit.

It provides a pretty comprehensive retelling of the history of the Sunset Strip, but the whole thing feels like when your parents and their friends have too many drinks and talk about the glory years that you never actually experienced, and how everything is terrible now. Not a great watch.
