The Captain's Paradise

Amusing comedy does its best to conceal a pretty vicious misogynististic streak, and succeeds by and large thanks to Guinness' fine performance (even if it is just another thinly veiled excuse for him to create two different characters!), and the wonderful chemistry he shares with both women; De Carlo's tempestuous partner is fine, but it is Johnson's touching portrait of wounded betrayal which stands out in the supporting cast.

The concept has grown offensive over time, and Guinness doesn't help for playing the captain sympathetically; for the first time, the Great Guinness comes off looking like quite a bastard.
