The main character is stricken with a horrible disease, but it doesn't affect him. It spreads to every inamimate object that he touches, and then if another person touches the object, they are dissolved into it. No one knows that Jake is the carrier except him. This brings about the "red objects" that specify every object that he has touched, as discovered by the community with cats. They use cats to test inanimate objects for the disease. (imdb)

Yeah whatever blahs blahs AIDS allegory, bitch this is us during the first weeks of covid when we were running our alphagetti cans under water. There is no preparing for the final act of this movie, it's straight up bonkers nonsense. This movie is like eavesdropping on the highest conversation about society you can possibly imagine.

I haven't decided yet if it makes sense on any level, but it's worth watching. I can say that with confidence.

probably the most cats ever to exist in a movie that's clearly made by a dog person.

Sort of a _Blue Velvet_ Meets _Masque of the Red Death_. This movie's originality lies less in its bizarre plot, though, than in its pervasive aura of paranoia, its abundant religious imagery, and its almost Dark Ages sense of dread. White's Michigan-lensed indie is sometimes crude -- though the sight of crazed fundamentalists, wrapped in protective trash bags (!), cheerfully chopping each other to bits is a novel and compelling one -- but is rarely less than genuinely disturbing.
