The Son of Fate

Mauritz Stiller's Madame de Thèbes (1915) is missing a few pieces, but they've done a decent job reconstructing one of the earliest works of the great Swedish director. A okay melodrama about a son's rise in politics and his secret background as a gypsy's son being adopted by a countess as a infant. Not going to compare to the films that made Stiller such a legend in silent cinema, but it's a solid early effort that shows his sensibilities capturing the right emotions for such a story.
