Today's Special

An undercooked script that's not too tasteful with its serving of many cliché-ingredients, especially all the parents-stuff are rather spiceless. Thankfully A.Mandvi as the lead is likeable and his scenes with Jess.W, N.Shah and K.Corrigan are enough to avoid vomiting. *Preview*: #12#, exp-3*, popcorn, story, (reviews), Jess.W/7, (K.Corrigan/4), R2.

I don't ask much of a "foodie comedy". I had fun.

Boring.

Shah acts rings around everyone else, but Mandvi does a good job of leading Today's Special. Jaffrey & Weixler are good support, and Corrigan was underused. The film is just okay; not really saying anything new about food or family. The theme of following your passion is marred by the boxing the protagonist's success to his culture of ethnic origin.

Starts so promisingly, but 30 minutes in after a great set up and laugh out loud humour, the script falls through the floor giving way to a romance that feels forced and scenes where nothing happens. Such a letdown.
