Perhaps not as remarkable as the early talkie adaptation done in 1929 with Norma Shearer, but it was still well suitable for a 1941 remake with Laraine Day & Robert Young. The story takes enough turns to thrill and engage all the way as this poor girls finds herself in difficult situations. Especially the women, cold and hot, that affects her life helps with the enjoyment of this picture. I'm not going to claim it's the smartest courtroom drama ever written, but I did find it entertaining.
