That's the one part of this movie that I found plausible: slaveholders often refused to buy children, since their upkeep in food usually exceeded any labour they performed. There's a gooey romantic subplot between Mariette (the niece of Simon Legree) and George Shelby, son of a prominent slaveholder. (imdb)

Freddie owns a failing old hotel. To attract new business he spreads the rumor that there's pirate treasure hidden somewhere in the building.

At football-mad Castoria College, Charlie Horse and Phil McCavity are two of the football team's players. Through sheer luck, they manage to lead their team to victory in the last game before graduation. Following graduation, Alma Matter, a pretty coed to who Phil is attracted, holds a reunion party at her parent's house. Alma has become an aviatrix and wants Charlie's help in getting her plane ready for a flight, as he has become a blacksmith who has supposed expertise in mechanics.

Billy works at a film studio where lots of things keep going wrong. First, while filming, the camera man and director nearly get dropped off a building. This stunt is funny and rather realistic. Second, Billy looks in a keyhole at what he THINKS is a lady taking a bath--and she's soon joined by a man!

Roscoe's wife is fed up with his fondness for practical jokes, and announces she is going home to Mother with no intentions of returning. The next day, a beautiful girl calls at his home and announces she is collecting clothes for the refugees of Patagonia. Roscoe, eager to please and impress, is gathering up all of his wife's clothes for this worthy purpose when his wife returns home. This earns Roscoe a slap upside his head with a baseball bat, and wife departs once more.

Truck drivers Olley (El Brendel) and Tom (Tom Kennedy) run over a tailor's dummy and believe it is a man, and they need to dispose of the body. They mistake the grounds of a girl's seminary for a cemetery and are discovered while digging a grave. They run into the dormitory where the girl students are sleeping.

Officers Brendel and Kennedy are dispatched to a house where scientists are conducting experiments to revive the dead.

Gardeners El and Tom find themselves drafted in the army and struggle to make good.

Jimmy Warren (Johnny Downs), whose boss (Arthur Q. Bryan) doesn't think his salesman should be married, runs into all manner of problems when he takes his wife (Marjorie Deanne) along on a business trip, and the boss also decides to go. This leads to misunderstandings and confusion.

Andy is left alone to mind the clothing store while his wife goes to the Amazon Hotel for Women to practice rolling bandages for the Red Cross. A woman comes in to buy a pair of shoes and tells Andy she wants the pair on the mannequin on the sidewalk. Andy mistakes a lounging (wasn't she always) Barbara Pepper for a mannequin and takes a shoe off of her foot. This does not go unnoted by her highly jealous boyfriend Vernon Dent, who pokes Andy in the jaw.

El Brendel gets married and his troubles begin. In the Pullman car on his honeymoon, he gets into the wrong berth and has wife trouble; at the hotel, he gets into the wrong room and has husband trouble; then his wife's ex-husband arrives on the scene.

Hugh Herbert is a nervous millionaire who goes to a sanitarium for treatment of his affliction, which immediately worsens when he ends up in the hands of two escaped convicts, who fully intend to kill him.

Hugh Herbert's wife becomes suspicious when Hugh has to spend a lot of time away from home at conventions, but Hugh allays her concerns. He invites his boss and his wife for dinner, which, he hopes, will lead to a pay-raise for him. A loud, practical-joking friend shows up, with his flashy, redheaded girlfriend, and Hugh ends up in hot water and his boss fires him. He is rehired as a partner, however, when the friend places a large order with Hugh.

A beautiful blonde has just stolen a necklace and is being pursued by the police. She plants the necklace on an unsuspecting Hugh, intending to come back for it after she has eluded the cops.

Hugh is a businessman who is stressed out with work, so he decides to rent a cabin in the mountains for a weekend of relaxation, but a crate containing a live gorilla is delivered to the same place, causing pandemonium.

Harry Gribbon is an incredibly talented, but reluctant college football player who is dating one of his teachers, Geneva Mitchell. A jealous rival tries sabotaging Harry.

Bumbling talent agent Danny Webb tries to help a struggling actress get work.

A dancing instructor goes to a married woman's home to give her lessons while her husband is absent. He leaves and goes to a poker game. The husband is one of the players, and the instructor, not knowing who he is, shows her picture around the table. This prompts a round-table discussion in which none of the standard rules for civility are part of the discussion.

Clyde wins by one patient, that being the wife of his competitor, and he is there ahead of the husband to deliver quintuplets.
