25 years prior to appearing on Goodson-Todman game shows, and 5 years prior to the premiere of his long-running radio show, Fred Allen starred in this unremarkable one-reeler most likely shot in the Kaufman-Astoria studios in New York. The early sound era was full of one-shot comedy shorts provided by virtually every vaudeville entertainer of the day. This is Fred Allen's first on-screen appearance.
Jack Benny is preparing his New Year's Eve radio broadcast but takes time out to take his valet Rochester to meet his girlfriend Josephine arriving on a steamer. Fred Allen and his sister Barbara are also en route to the dock to meet Barbara's daughter Mary, returning from a personal appearance tour in South America. Josephine is her maid. Mr. Fiasco, a producer of plays gets three plays explained to him. In one of the plays, a man chooses scotch for a drink and dies. In the second play the man slaps his new wife in the face for nothing. Final play the man leaves his wife for work. The wife greets the iceman who knows the husband just left. He is greeted with open arms. The husband returns early and knows the iceman is under the table. After his wife gives him a lump of sugar, he smashes the iceman on the head with a lump of ice. (imdb)
