He is right as there are two men after Crockett's ranch and packing plant which will be theirs if Crockett fails to pay off his note. When their attempt to get Crockett's son in financial trouble is broken up by Billy and their men fail to rustle the herd, they then poison the water hole.

Marshal Tim Smith is sent to Rawhide to battle rustlers. When the outlaw gang attempts to kill the new Marshal, they get the wrong man. Tim puts his identification on the dead man and poses as a known outlaw. This gets him into the gang where he is given the job of posing as the new Marshal.
The Traitor
To prevent a lynching, Ranger Tim lets two outlaws go saying he will get them later. This gets him kicked out of the Rangers and he goes across the border and joins Big George's gang who are running contraband. But the outlaw Jimmy overhears Tim tell his sister that the dismissal was a fake. Big George and his gang then go after Tim and trap him in a cabin.
Riders of Black Mountain
Disguised as a gambler, U.S. Marshal Tim Donovan Tim McCoy) rides the Black Mountain Stage which is held up by Pete Smith (Ted Adams) and his gang. Tim and his pal, Tombstone (Ralph Peters) pursue --- no, not on foot as their horses were tied to the stage --- and find the robbers trying to open the strongbox. The outlaws flee and Sheriff Clay Matthews (Rex Lease) arrives and arrests Tim and Tombstone as the robbers. Judge Harper (Frank LaRue), also a passenger, frees Tim and Tombstone.

Jim Bannon and his partner own a stagecoach line. With the coming of the telegraph and the end of the Pony Express, two men plot to take over and get the new mail contract. When Jim's partner is murdered and Jim's name is written in the sand beside the body, Jim is arrested. At his trial Whip brings surprising evidence that clears Jim and the two plotters are soon arrested.

Johnny Mack Brown, operating out of the Marshal's office, poses as a band bandit and stage robber, aided by his friend, stage driver Clancy, in order to learn the identity of a gang that has been pulling off stagecoach and bank robberies. The gang is headed by widowed ranch owner Ma Posey and includes Blackie Marshall, Deuce Logan, Tad and a traveling bank examiner, Fleming, who tips the gang off on money movement.
