75% Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000) - Rated 08 Apr 2024
"Sometimes it's the best comedy around, sometimes it's a manchild being insufferable. Incredible to think I've been watching this show for over 20 years and still enjoy it. Glad it ended on its own terms. I'll miss it, but I think it was time. Ending it all on a spite finale was the perfect touch."
40% Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) - Rated 25 Mar 2024
"How does a 200 million USD movie end up with such weak CGI? And writing? And acting? And directing? And so many piss jokes? And not even a proper battle against the main villain ? The DCEU somehow managed in the span of only two movies to make Aquaman fun then to make him uninteresting again. Quite an accomplishment. Not an awful movie, but disappointing given the previous one."
87% Dune: Part Two (2024) - Rated 15 Mar 2024
"I complained about the first part being too much exposition without enough worldbuilding. Part two does not suffer from the same issues. It's a stunning movie, Villeneuve and Zimmer outdo themselves every single time. I'm still dumbfounded by the fremen being portrayed by non-arab actors when they already have so little representation in Hollywood. I'm glad we're going into Dune Messiah, it's a necessary end to the story arc, Herbert would have been proud of how well it's being done."
87% Beetlejuice (1988) - Rated 07 Mar 2024
"Wacky characters all act against logic, except the two ghosts who are trying to haunt them and be "normal". It's a fun inversion of tropes. The movie's namesake character is secondary really, it's more about the cute ghosts and the eccentric family in their house. This movie convinced me that Tim Burton was a genius, which was the start of a long series of disappointments. I just really vibed with Beetlejuice. Still very rewatchable 35 years later."
40% Griselda (2024) - Rated 13 Feb 2024
"It's good. Sofia's a good actress. It's very well made. Everything's fine. I just can't take more narco glorification. There's no need to beautify history that much. Sure, her fall was presented with zero glamour and in all its brutality, but before that she's shown as a victim and an underdog and that's just not okay given the reality of the Miami drug wars and its death toll in both the USA and especially latin america."
95% The 100 (2014) - Rated 13 Feb 2024
"While it has many… oh so many flaws, The 100 somehow always finds new ways to keep you interested by completely reimagining the stakes. Incredible worldbuilding with a satisfying explanation to everything at the end (not the best ending but at least it's something). Characters are really idiotic and take the worst decisions, but that's drama for you. Worth watching all 100 episodes even though it kinda peaks in season 2."
40% Koala Man (2023) - Rated 09 Jan 2024
"Amusing adventures don't save the concept from its dullness. It's cool to watch but could have been more than just cool."
40% Our Flag Means Death (2022) - Rated 09 Jan 2024
"I liked the beginning of s1 and ending of s2 but felt like the meandering inbetween was too much at times. The cast is fun, the stories are amusing, the representation is welcome, it was good but could have been great instead."
12% Freelance (2023) - Rated 28 Dec 2023
"Non credible revolution in a zero stakes action movie with low quality plot twists in which the poor script and directing can't even be saved by acting. The main "villain" really irked me, are we meant to side with a less imperialist coup against a more imperialist coup and just accept the evil dictator was actually a chill democracy dude all along keeping a facade to protect his people? Asking too much of me there."
40% An American Pickle (2020) - Rated 28 Dec 2023
"Hearing Yiddish in a movie drew out some nice nostalgia vibes from my youth. Alas, two doses of Rogen might be too much for me. His humor is alright, but doesn't leave much space for anything else."
