The Shootist (1976) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
John Wayne's finest role in his last movie. It summs up both the lure of the western, and its death as a genre in modern times.

Theatre of Blood (1973) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Vincent Price's best role, in perhaps his most literate, well-written film.

Dirty Harry (1971) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Eastwood's best. A product of its times, it still rings true with people who believe that crime does not pay.

MASH (1970) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Subversive. Groundbreaking. Created the "Animal House" - us against them - genre and nobody's even noticed. I need a black capsule.

The Blues Brothers (1980) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
So much better than the sum of its parts. Everything works. Why? Chemistry, from director to writer, actor to actor, music to action. This is the only musical that avergae guys will say they love.

Carrie (1976) - Rated 13 Aug 2007
Underrated by most, Carrie is one of the three finest horror movies ever made (Exorcist 1973 and Alien 1979 being the others). Not because of its scope -- both Exorcist and Alien are far grander in epic sweep -- but because of how well the movie works, and on so many levels. DePalma KILLED. Perhaps his best film.

30 years later, it's all become true. This is a horror movie and nobody knows it.
