Girlhood (2014) - Rated 15 Aug 2025
A Complete Unknown (2024) - Rated 15 Aug 2025
"Like many others, I appreciate that the actors don’t try to imitate the characters they portray, but instead work with and develop their own abilities. I love both Bob Dylan and Joan Baez’s music so the scenes deliberately staged to be emotional really moved me."
Diamant brut (2024) - Rated 14 Aug 2025
"An almost unbearable, unflinching insight into the life of Liane shows with what clumsy uncertainty she tries to survive in a world she does not understand."
The Hobbit (1977) - Rated 09 Aug 2025
"The simplifications flatten characters and take away the subtlety of the book. Complex personalities loose depth and some important moments are rushed or skipped. The visuals and songs are quite nice, though."
My Teacher (2017) - Rated 04 Aug 2025
"A moral balancing act - and even though the teacher acts with thoughtfulness, some choices feel a bit off and leave mixed feelings. Light on the surface, but quietly deep and emotional."
Holy Smoke (1999) - Rated 18 Jul 2025
"Absurd and over-the-top, throwing clichés around almost deliberately. The strange mix of spirituality, power games, and bizarre situations kept me watching exceptionally amused."
Dear John (2010) - Rated 18 Jul 2025
"A decent mix of chick flick romance, war themes and a touch of autism. While the story isn't very deep and follows a rather predictable path, it's still watchable."
Beasts of No Nation (2015) - Rated 18 Jul 2025
"Overly polished like a high-end commercial. It creates more distance than engagement. Surprised by the lack of emotional impact, especially regarding perversion, brutality and all the different aspects of the boy's traumatization and dehumanization."
Les chatouilles (2018) - Rated 18 Jul 2025
"Telling the story of childhood sexual abuse in a sensitive and honest way, showing how deep the scars are. The film doesn’t shock or dramatize - it simply shows the inner world of someone carrying trauma and all it's aspects."
9/11: One Day in America (2021) - Rated 18 Jul 2025
"The emotional focus through eyewitness accounts ist touching but becomes tiring as repetition sets in. Broader perspectives - geopolitical, historical, cultural, and logistical for a more complete understanding of the events are missing."
