Under the Skin (2014) - Rated 10 Aug 2025
"excellent unsettling soundtrack, great for this movie that sits in a lot of bad vibes. solid depiction of horny jail."
Crimes of the Future (2022) - Rated 10 Aug 2025
"a pretty gross but interesting marriage of eroticism and body horror. "surgery is the new sex." actually kind of refreshingly direct about its weirdness, with a solid sci fi plot"
I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Rated 29 Jul 2025
"a very dreamy film exploring isolation, a failure to come of age. it's pretty powerful, but spends most of the time dealing with the fantasy aspects of the tv show, rather than centering the emotional beats of the characters. it works fine as a trans allegory, but doesn't really explore gender identity"
In Fabric (2018) - Rated 21 Jul 2025
"forgot to review this but it was pretty good"
After Yang (2022) - Rated 16 Jul 2025
"A beautifully shot film, with a very interesting story. However, the film really misses the mark and isn't actually about its interesting parts. It wastes so much time on the shitty dad and his melodrama, instead of being about the whole family. It didn't really have too much to say about mechanic people. Pretty good, but SO much worse than it could be"
The Ballad of Lefty Brown (2017) - Rated 11 Jul 2025
"a western spearheaded by an ex-failcop, which is kind of funny. the eye acting is insane here, especially by the lead. maybe I just don't like westerns much..."
Waves (2019) - Rated 07 Jun 2025
"A really impactful and thought provoking movie. Plus, the cinematography is great and the soundtrack rips with 2010s hip hop hits. The mid movie climax is so overly tragic though, it really takes away from the film for me. I love how the movie is 100% from the boy's perspective at first, but then he essentially disappears from the movie to drill into the aftermath of his family and others instead. Also it mirrors how incarceration effects people in real life"
The Spectacular Now (2013) - Rated 06 Jun 2025
"a coming of age story for a really unlovable guy to spiral and redeem himself. kinda eh, but with excellent depiction of choke-it-down man pain"
Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011) - Rated 06 Jun 2025
"nifty documentary about a master's obsession with his craft, and family. complete and utter dedication is so romantic, but sounds rough"
I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) - Rated 15 May 2025
"starts off fun and silly, but gets surprisingly sad and dark. a wild ride of crime and escape"
