Bio: I like to watch and rate films with my partner, who found Criticker and had us each make an account. As of Feb 2025 I've codified a rating system based on overall enjoyment.

- 0 = disqualified; there's basically no reason to watch this
- 10 = despised; strongly recommend against without a specific reason to watch
- 20 = hated; recommend against without a specific reason to watch
- 30 = disliked; worth seeing once if actively curious; not recommended for or against
- 40 = did not like; worth seeing once for the experience; recommend with caveats
- 50 = felt mixed; worth seeing once, almost worth more; recommend with caveats
- 60 = kinda liked; might rewatch; recommend as okay
- 70 = liked; would rarely rewatch; recommend as good
- 80 = really liked; would occasionally rewatch; recommend as great
- 90 = loved; would actively rewatch; recommend as excellent
- 100 = an exceptional favourite

Films below 100 can get up to 9 bonus points on technical and story aspects. WIP, still learning.

Wayne's World (1992) - Rated 24 Jun 2025
"Endearing and full of silly gags and lines with occasionally surprising depth, although it's too light and fluffy to hit very hard with its social or media commentary, and it's pretty middle-of-the-road for overall weirdness. Still, it has some good tunes, nice set design, and good vibes. A relic of its time, to be sure, but not in a bad way at all."

Parasite (2019) - Rated 06 Jun 2025
"Funny and poignant. The rich characters remind me uncomfortably of some wealthier distant relatives I've met, and the poor characters... well I grew up impoverished and living in basements, so that hits even closer to home. The rich family's are fittingly of banal stupidity rather than any deliberate malice; and the poor family's desperation, resourcefulness, and despair are palpable. All this collides with some absurd elements and builds to a fascinatingly volatile ending."

Europa (1991) - Rated 04 Jun 2025
"In which a fatally idealistic and alarmingly passive radical cenrist do-gooder goes to post-WWII Germany in an attempt to do some good, only to get roped into doing some harm on his way to and through an existential breakdown."

Rear Window (1954) - Rated 02 Jun 2025
"Immaculately put together. The atmosphere never wavers, there's plenty of clever dialogue and funny moments, and every scene is visually rich, concentrated by the limited perspective. The ending is a bit straightforward (a subversion with no murder and just overimaginative voyeurs selectively reading into things could have been interesting), but the journey alone is still worth it. I also like how the women have just as much depth and agency as the rest of the cast."

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - Rated 02 Jun 2025
"The first half hour or so is "Extremely White American Family (w/Child Who Definitely Gets Beaten Up In School) Has Misadventures In Foreign Parts," but I liked the French Morocco locale well enough for that bit, and the film picks up reasonably well once it gets going. The ending is okay."

I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) - Rated 02 Jun 2025
"Says more and gives more to think about than Anomalisa (which ended just when it threatened to get interesting), and someone like me has a hard time saying no to the litany of literary and artistic references (which in this film are generally more poignant than the ones in, for instance, Linklater's Waking Life). Still, the interesting thoughts tend to peter out before saying much. Makes me curious about the book; we'll see if anything comes of that."

Casino Royale (2006) - Rated 01 Jun 2025
"For the most part gets everything right that OHMSS got wrong. Sadly comes off as trying a bit too hard to distance itself from established Bond tropes. While it succeeds at 1) having more serious drama and intrigue while 2) having some very impressive action sequences, the formula just feels incomplete without 3) the classic wry and incongruent humor to break up the tone, and 4) the well-worn classic theme music, which of all things in the older films never felt unwelcome."
