"This movie is less of a drama and more of an absurdist situation comedy. And that's where the move excels. Once the family drama kicks in around the 30 min mark, it gets much better thanks to the comedic lifeblood of the film Karren Karagulian (Toros), and his dynamics with Ani + his 2 henchmen. The middle hr & a 1/2 is great, everything feels earned and the plot moves well. But the romance/drama is shakier and Ani's final cathartic moment feels slightly unearned and abrupt and never expanded on"

"Honestly a very good movie, at least for the first hour and a half. The movie loses some direction once the big monster is made in the final act. But up until then the plot was compelling, the concept was great and it balanced the sci-fi/horror/meta-commentary very well. Just wish the final act was different, or perhaps it wasn't even necessary tbh. One plot nit-pick is that it's kinda tough to discern if the conciousness is shared between them during different parts. But overall a great film."

"At best this movie is okay. And that's at best. The fact that it got 13 oscar nominations is insane. The majority of the songs are bad, and all are un-memorable. The plot is only midly interesting at best, though not great. It shouldn't have even been a musical tbh. Mostly unforgetable, if not for the small shock factor of how bad/abrupt some songs are. Not to mention the shallow portrayals of both the trans and mexican communities."
