95 95% Fargo (2014) - Rated 08 Jul 2016
"The best show on television since the end of Mad Men. It is an homage to the 1995 film that also wants to do its own thing, and succeeds in both regards with strong, new characters and excellent performances."
30 16% The Last Kingdom (2015) - Rated 08 Jul 2016
"The characters are poorly written and strangely seem to care little about each other for no other reason than that the plot demands it."
50 45% Room (2015) - Rated 24 May 2016
"Brie Larson is great as is the concept of the film but I'm unconvinced by the execution and confused by decisions made by some characters."
85 87% The Hateful Eight (2015) - Rated 18 May 2016
"I put this off for a while because of some of the negative reviews I had read. Three hours is a long watch for a film that's not enjoyable. I had a great time watching it, particularly towards the end when the over-the-top violence that we expect from Tarantino shows up in a big way. It was also a lot funnier than I expected."
60 58% Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Rated 10 May 2016
"I liked the movie despite the lingering presence of Joss Whedon."
80 79% Green Room (2016) - Rated 05 May 2016
"It's violent without being gratuitous, and the way the characters speak and act made them seem genuine."
75 70% Blue Ruin (2014) - Rated 05 May 2016
"A nice variation on the revenge story. It was equally thrilling and amusing."
60 58% Nagaya shinshiroku (1947) - Rated 05 May 2016
"A simple moral tale executed well. The ending is a little heavy-handed, but that's my only real complaint."
25 4% L'Eclisse (1962) - Rated 04 May 2016
"This is my third Antonioni film and the third time in which I walk away with nothing but regret at having wasted two hours on a story and characters that I neither care about or understand. Nearing the end of the film, I didn't think it was any worse than L'Avventura but the last few minutes of this film really annoyed me."
35 29% La Notte (1961) - Rated 02 May 2016
"I want to like Antonioni's films as much as other people seem to like them but I find it difficult to care about the characters or anything that happens to them because I don't understand their reasons for their behavior. I appreciated the ending which helped me better understand the characters but for most of the film I couldn't have cared less."
