64 65% St. Vincent (2014) - Rated 03 Feb 2015
"This is a paint by numbers feel good comedy and has Bill Murray as the lead so what isn't there to like? The stories main arc is the relationship between Murray's character and the neighbours kid. The story writes itself as mayhem ensues but it is a heart warming journey and really tugs at the heart strings. Naomi Watts plays a disposable character who brings nothing to the story but the rest of the cast are excellent. This is definitely worth your time especially if your a Bill Murray fan."
61 53% The Interview (2014) - Rated 03 Feb 2015
"All eyes were on this movie due to media attention but thankfully it doesn't fall complete flat. The story is a bit of a mess but there are several comedic moments and one liners that remind you that Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg can write and direct funny movies. The cast look like they had an amazing time making the film (James Franco looks like he's about to corpse in every scene) and I expect audiences will laugh several times. Its nothing ground breaking but still enjoyable."
38 16% Taken 3 (2015) - Rated 24 Jan 2015
"The 'last' instalment of the Taken franchise is pretty much a standalone film. There are the familiar fight scenes (which aren't even close to the imagination or choreography of The Raid movies),Liam Neeson's facial expressions never change & the outcome is also the same. The storyline doesn't really link to the previous films apart from the same cast & its very predictable.I really doubt this is the last Taken film we will see because they leave it very open which contradicts the movies tag line."
76 92% Paddington (2015) - Rated 24 Jan 2015
"It doesn't happen often but this is a really fun movie for all the family to enjoy. Its amazing how the adventures of a CGI bear travelling to London can be so captivating but also so enjoyable. The story has a slap stick approach but the gags really work and every scene is very well choreographed/animated. I don't know how different the film would have been with Colin Firth's voice as Paddington but Ben Whishaw seems the perfect replacement. I highly recommend this movie, its a must see!"
37 14% Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014) - Rated 24 Jan 2015
"The joke has gone to far now,how this has become a trilogy is beyond me.The jokes are exactly the same as before but this time we have the horror of Rebel Wilson's shocking 'British accent'!Gervais once again does his best David Brent impression & the other usual suspects once again lower themselves for a payday.Dan Stevens & Hugh Jackman can hold their heads eye because they are the saving grace of a really boring movie!Sad this is one of Robin Williams' last films,he deserves a lot better!"
67 77% Foxcatcher (2014) - Rated 18 Jan 2015
"I was expecting a rags to riches story but I was very wrong. This was slow, intense and rather creepy which is how I would describe Steve Carell's character. He is protrayed as a lonely figure looking for acceptance from his mother and peers. He was never a character you could trust and seemed unstable at times.Tatum and Ruffalo are terrific in the supporting roles and you can tell they did their research to be convincing wrestlers. This film is all about the performances but its a captivating story."
63 61% American Sniper (2014) - Rated 18 Jan 2015
"I liked this movie. The Iraq sequences are incredibly tense and really deliver in showing the true horror of war. Bradley Cooper's performances with Clint Eastwoods direction is faultless. The story does seem to only touch the boundaries of the real story though and could maybe go into more depths of PTSD.Also we are introduced to his brother but he is almost forgotten and the conclusion ends to abruptly for me.This film will split audiences but definitely worth a watch to form your own opinion."
66 73% The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) - Rated 18 Jan 2015
"After 474 minutes the Hobbit trilogy comes to an end. The final installment offers much enjoyment but there is also room for improvement.Every scene seems stretched which slows down the pace of the film. I think this has been the main issue with LOTR and this series. The visuals are once again floorless and the battle sequences are epic. The opening scene involving Smaug is stunning and probably the highlight of the trilogy. Martin Freeman is perfect casting but this is Richard Armitage's movie."
47 28% Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2014) - Rated 16 Jan 2015
"This is a decent film for the whole family. There are many slap stick comedy moments for kids to laugh at and I think adults will also take something away from this movie. The cast is also great with Jennifer Garner and Steve Carell keeping the story moving along. Disney also know their audience because this film barely scrapes 80 mins so there is no chance of restless kids in the closing moments. Its a fun movie to watch at the time but im not sure this will require any repeat viewing."
43 21% Horns (2014) - Rated 16 Jan 2015
"Ive been really impressed with Daniel Radcliffe's movie choices because hes definitely trying something different each time. Unfortunately this one was a bit of a let down. It had all the ingredients for a decent horror/drama movie but its mainly directed at the romance between the lead couple. There are some nice ideas at times but im not sure the film makers knew what film they wanted to make. With a clear genre direction I think there is a better film to be made."
