Another clever documentary from Matt Walsh and The Daily Wire. Much like What is a Woman, Walsh once again gives proponents of radical leftist ideologies—in this case, race grifters—a platform to make themselves look foolish through expressing their own opinions. This time, however, the tone shifts from the more serious style of What is a Woman to a more light-hearted, Borat-style comedy. To my surprise, the film delivered laughs from start to finish.

The Prestige (2006) - Rated 08 Mar 2024

The Prestige is the probably best example of a prefect 'mindf**' movie. The movie itself being structured like the magic trick explained in the opening sequence—is so meta and brilliant. The way the film finally reveals itself is masterful. The writing, acting, philosophical questions, Tesla's machine, the themes of obsession, pride, and self-destruction all come together perfectly. One of the greatest movies ever made, in my opinion. Probably in my top 3.

Sorcerer (1977) - Rated 07 Jul 2026

Interesting premise and some great tension-building, but the movie is held back by a painfully forgettable and not particularly likable cast of characters. The setting feels tactile and lived-in, and there's an unapologetic brutality to it that feels closer to real life than most films. The bridge scene is one of those sequences I'll never forget, but it would have hit so much harder if I actually cared about the people involved.

Hereditary (2018) - Rated 08 Mar 2024

Objectively speaking, it is an effective movie. Cinema is an art form that can be wielded for either good or bad. In this case, it's beyond bad—the movie is downright evil. However, I cannot deny that it is also masterfully made. It's like if a brilliant painter created something grotesque and demonic, but executed it with incredible skill. You’re simultaneously impressed by the craftsmanship and utterly revolted by what has been depicted."

Tonally ahead of its time, with strong performances across the board. Unfortunately, those couldn’t mask the cracks from a rushed production and one of the most underwhelming third acts I’ve seen.
