"Fifteen minutes of pointless shooting less and it would be perfect."

95 97% | Divoké vcely (2001) - Aug 24, 2010
"For me, this is the single greatest Czech film ever. Will anyone understand it outside this country? I don't know. Probably not."

92 92% | The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) - Jul 16, 2010
"An exquisite study of embarrassment. The director knew what it was he wanted to do, and did it superbly."

77 41% | Road to Perdition (2002) - Jul 16, 2010
"Solid filmmaking, a bit too heavy on the melodrama. Dragged down by an extremely predictable plot."

89 80% | Shutter Island (2010) - Jul 16, 2010
"This is basically "Silent Hill 2: The Movie", which is not a bad thing at all (talking about the videogame, not the Silent Hill film). Stunning craftsmanship by everyone involved. Perhaps not a great film, but extremely well-made."

85 66% | Sherlock Holmes (2009) - Jan 28, 2010
"A brilliant adventure film. Downey and Law are an excellent match, bursting with chemistry and wit; the whole Holmes mythology is modernised, cleverly subverted and gently mocked, resulting in a very pleasant experience indeed. In other words, this film is a lot of fun."

75 32% | The Brothers Bloom (2009) - Jan 01, 2010
"A perfect example of a story that had premise, but absolutely no idea how the whole thing should end. While the first half does its job very well (though the quirkiness feels somewhat forced and pacing is often all wrong), eventually the plot crumbles to pieces and after several violent shifts of mood and a series of cons within cons within cons ends, somehow. A lot of sadly wasted potential."

90 85% | District 9 (2009) - Sep 18, 2009
"Simply loved it. Loved the story, the presentation, the freshness, everything. No intelligent comment from me."
|
70 18% | The Experiment (2001) - Sep 01, 2009
"There are strong moments in "Das Experiment", but they are drowned in far too much filler (including the most ridiculously tacked-on softporn sequences I have ever seen). Also, the "villain" and the "sidekick" are a little too cartoony for my tastes and the ending is way, way over the top. Quite frankly, I'd recommend reading a book about the Stanford Experiment instead of watching this."

88 77% | Slumdog Millionaire (2008) - Mar 08, 2009
"Yes, this is a good film. It is, however, also true that it's overrated and hypocritical and the storytelling technique gets stale about halfway through. Some may enjoy the frantic tempo of the photography and editing, but I personally found it distracting in what is essentially a lovestory. Good, but nowhere near excellent."
