Despite the mountain of universal acclaim and historic trophies, Parasite reveals itself less as a profound cinematic triumph and more as an exercise in manufactured prestige. While its setup might have worked as a quirky, mildly inventive television project, as a major international release it offers remarkably little reason to exist. There is no genuine depth beneath the surface and no compelling drama once the initial gimmick is spent; the moment the central pivot is revealed, the narrative quickly deflates into a stale and repetitive exercise.
