The Guardian doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it hooks you. The story is about Ben Randall, who works in the Coast Guard. He is played by Kevin Costner. After a misfortune that changes his life, he decides to become a mentor to new cadets, facing his own ghosts and the task of passing on his wisdom. Among them is Jake Fischer, a self-centered young man who tries to prove his worth while dragging along his own past. The connection between the two actors carries much of the weight of the film, but at times it feels predictable.

What really stands out are the rescue scenes. They are shot with tension and realism, making you feel the immensity of the sea and the constant danger. However, when the film focuses on personal relationships and the drama outside the water, it falls into clichés. The typical dynamic between the experienced mentor and the rebellious apprentice has been seen in many other stories, and here it adds nothing new.

Despite this, the film manages to move you at certain moments. The message about sacrifice and team spirit is well achieved, and although the script doesn't always shine, The Guardian works as a worthy tribute to the men and women of the Coast Guard. It is not unforgettable, but it offers solid entertainment for those who enjoy stories of overcoming adversity and maritime action.
