“It’s going to be like GRAVITY, with Charlize Theron playing Sandra Bullock, i.e, a tough woman battling alone to survive in a hostile landscape, all as a way of doing the work of mourning, but with a touch of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, well not the chainsaws but an overly talkative psycho and a bit of cooked meat, but all set down under: we can’t lose.” The main difference from the Sandra Bullock movie (which, thirteen years later, seems strangely, but rightly, forgotten, as the collective delusion that gripped critics and audiences gradually wears off) is how clearly the protagonist is shown to be responsible for the death she is grieving. Not above being nonsensical. Taron Egerton does a pretty good job of portraying a deranged inhabitant of Australia, a country presented as being psychosocially similar to the world of DELIVERANCE (1972), but lacking the banjo skills: well it’s not totally wrong.
