I Am Love
An outsider who has married into an insular aristocratic family gradually discovers the necessity of paying attention to her own desire. In short, the slogan could have been taken from Princess Diana’s 1989 comment: “Bloody hell, the things I have done for this fucking family” (and not forgetting James Gilbey’s immediate reply, either: “I haven’t played with myself, for a full forty-eight hours. Not for a full forty-eight hours.”). But actually, that would be to make the movie seem more spontaneous and alive than it is. There are many fine parts, but somehow the whole seems less than the sum of them, and while the final moments are done very well, there is still a sense that the fate of Edoardo is treated as little more than a deus ex machina.
