Dersu Uzala

I randomly select this movie because it's in the Top 250, and to my surprise, it's a Akira Kurosawa film! This is honestly one of the best movies I have ever seen, it's such a great character study on friendship that transcends culture! The cinematography and everything in this looks great! My only complaint is I didn't really like the ending as much. Quite honestly though, this might be my second favorite Akira Kurosawa film after Hidden Fortress. I will need to watch this again soon!

Man, this is just a perfect film. I love my character studies and I love how this movie plays with the back and forth between Dersu and the captain. My favorite scene in this is definitely where Dersu and the captain have to aggressively cut off twigs to make a shelter and survive an intense over night blizzard. There's so much to be gained from this film that I think it can only be experienced to fully appreciate. The more I watch it, the more I love it. The only films from Akira Kurosawa that I like more are Ran and The Hidden Fortress.
