Hirokazu Kore-eda always makes good character studies with fascinating characters and although I adore the four main leads in this. I was not feeling a lot of the side plots in this. I feel like a greater focus on the younger sister and tightening the script around that would have greatly benefited this. I understand that this tackles a lot of themes surrounding sisterhood and relationships, but a lot of time is wasted on random superfluous things!

Like there's an affair subplot, and a fishing subplot that don't really go anywhere and it just leads the characters back to where they were. Honestly, a pointless waste of time. But that being said, this is still a really beautiful movie and I love the bike ride through the cherry blossoms! I think I will like this a bit more on a rewatch but I am unsure. I am a little bit sad that this got out of the Letterboxd top 500 because this is a lot better then some of the films on there.

Oh also, I wish I would have someone love me like these girls love those plums. There unconditional love towards plums is adorable and concerning. That's a fun drinking game for you and if you like plums, you can have plum wine and die from how many times they say plum!
