Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
Well, I saw this movie earlier today, and I keep wracking my brain on how to give out my official review. Quite honestly, I am so done with Star Wars, and it's hard to even talk about it because of how painful it is to see my favorite franchise slowly die...
Let's get the positives out of the way first, I guess. I love the alien designs, and I am a sucker for Sci-Fi Bullshit. This flips all the switches in my lizard brain and makes me want to clap at this. Disney really knows how to milk the machine and jangle keys in front of me, and I do enjoy it from a visual and theoretical perspective.
As for everything else... Star Wars is going to keep getting worse and worse until no one cares. (A lot of people already don't!) We as a film community need to stop accepting all of the slop coming out and demand actual good content. Would you rather have more Andor or more Mando at this point? Would you rather have Game of Thrones Season 4 or Season 8? How about The Boys Season 1 or Season 5? Guess who keeps forgiving the slop and not appreciating the actual effort it takes to make a good show. That's right, people sitting at home accepting anything that comes out on streaming as "good enough."
Now, let's guess who's in charge of Star Wars. The person who is the textbook example of style over substance and has to put wolves, Ahsoka, and fanboy fanservice in everything. That's right! Dave Filoni, who is no better than Kathleen Kennedy, who spent years making sure Star Wars really lived up to the hype of being bought for FOUR billion dollars. I am sure Dave Filoni knows what he's doing, right? Oh, he hired Jon Favreau, who started out great and then phoned it in after The Jungle Book movie made a billion dollars, and then everything else slowly got sucked dry until the Disney classics we had are now a corpse. This is a fetid example of just how far back it goes, and it's only now that people are starting to notice!
Star Wars used to make yacht-loads of money, and now, as a franchise, it will either flop like Solo or barely break even like this one probably will. This should have never happened! Why is every franchise slowly dying? I yearn for the day when people writing these movies care about them as much as the people making the sets or the actors who had fun with the material. Everything is so soulless now, and it's because people are accepting subpar everything. Go back to Season 1 and watch a random episode of the Mando show, and then watch a random episode in Season 3 or even Book of Boba Fett. Disney does not care about stories anymore; they only care about money, and people are eating it up! Thank you for coming to my TED Talk! This gets a 2/10 because it's better than some of the other sewage that Disney has expunged!

Mini Review: I am so done with Star Wars. The alien designs and Sci-Fi Bullshit still flip the switches in my lizard brain, but Disney has completely replaced substance with jangling keys and fanservice. We as a film community need to stop accepting “good enough” slop on streaming. Compare Mando Season 1 to Season 3 or Book of Boba Fett and the decline is painful. Everything feels soulless now. 2/10, but still better than some of Disney’s other sewage.
