Cherry Falls
One of the best and most genuinely clever of the post-SCREAM slashers feels slightly compromised and incomplete, with some of its more satiric impulses dulled (especially regarding the treatment of “virgin teens” in slasher movies). Overt references to genre stalwarts are fun, including some unexpected nods to TWIN PEAKS, though because the film never quite breaks loose into a deconstruction of tropes, they shy closer to simple imitation rather than achieving anything in their own right. Beautifully performed by all, especially Murphy, Biehn and the killer once they are revealed; not especially gory or even scary, but still fun to watch.
