Good Fortune

There’s a *lot* going on in this amiable and endearing debut from Ansari, and while he does an admirable job of keeping his multiple characters and their different plotlines spinning, it does give the film a ramshackle and scattered feel that doesn’t always work to its benefit, and makes the arcs of his characters a little difficult to become invested in. The best thread (and really where the focus should have been) involves Reeves, doing a sweet, guileless and utterly hilarious spin on WINGS OF DESIRE – this is an awards-worthy performance, and elevates everything else around it.
