I won’t defend this as a great, or even especially good, movie, but its mix of pious earnestness with some frenzied and over-stated melodrama made me think fondly of the disaster epics of the 1970s, and them being my Kryptonite made this a nice serve of derisive fun, though a little disappointing that the nature of the story cuts Thompson out before she has a chance to do anything! Seemingly odd inclusion of Cage is nullified if you can recall Heston, Lemmon, Fonda, Widmark et. al. being subjected to much worse than Cage gets here, and while its born-again Christian agenda is lathered on front and centre, I don’t think it makes the film unwatchable (or it just becomes par for the course!)
