Operation Dumbo Drop
Bizarre subject matter to try and bend into a Disney kids film (especially coming at the end of the Oliver Stone etc. cycle of Vietnam war films), but for what it is it’s a likable enough adventure saga, with Liotta and Glover’s always welcome company making it go down easier; I can’t help wondering what a slightly harder-edged PG-13 take on the material could have been that didn’t treat the war elements as a fantastical side-show. Some good action sequences help, though it’s unfortunate that Dumbo himself is a pretty dull and lifeless centre of attention!
