Knowing little about Springsteen except broadly where he fits in popular culture, I could accept this standard, but engrossing and well-acted, biopic on its own terms carrying little baggage, highlighted by pretty good recreations to my ear of The Boss’ big hits by a convincing White. A whole other movie (and arguably a better one) could have been based around Strong’s terrific evocation of the intensely hangdog Landau, and if the movie has a failing, is that it is by design a contained and inward saga about a character who never really gives much away.
