Too laboured and self-important to be the sparky heist-actioner that it wants to be – there are elements here that work quite well: Connolly as an Irish (fine) crime pappa is the most fun, and I had a legitimate “who’s that guy?” at Fonda’s appearance, but too much of the main narrative is dominated by Benz’s abrasively overplayed “tough dame” and her clunky banter with the otherwise non-demonstrative MacManus brothers; it doesn’t help that the villains arrayed against them are the most dully derivative “mafia tough guys” imaginable, leading to a deadly mid-section of two gangs of cliches firing at each other.
