The Double Life of Veronique
Given in my own life I’ve been mildly aggressively mistaken for someone I’ve never met by a stranger (and had relatively close friends swear they have encountered my doppelganger), I found the existential ideas Kieslowski is getting at here mildly disconcerting, but I’m not sure the silky cinematography and pensive atmosphere provided quite enough food for sustenance, especially when Kieslowski’s storytelling is so vague and opaque. Giving full benefit of the doubt that it will improve on a rewatch – as in BLUE, Jacob proves herself an extraordinarily incandescent filmic subject.
