The Lone Ranger
I genuinely wanted to like this more, due to its being a far more ambitious blockbuster than the average dust-off of cobwebby material, but it’s far too overstuffed (and ultimately wearying) to be a journey I’d ever be particularly interested in taking again. Depp is clearly having fun reaching the zenith of his Sparrow sensibilities, Hammer as good a substitute for Jimmy Stewart as his role requires, but at a certain point the hand-braking of the plot to explore some noisy detours makes you wish Verbinski and Co would quit screwing around and get on with it! Revs up for an admittedly exciting (and well constructed) finale, especially when the Ranger’s theme kicks in in all its glory!
