The Naked Gun
As worthy a follow-up to the Zucker originals as you could possibly hope for; this pulls off the perfect balance of leaning right in to the groan-worthy verbal and sight gags while still taking the underlying plot seriously enough that the film doesn’t lose its momentum. Neeson proves an inspired choice to take the mantle from Nielsen, delivering a surprisingly well-calibrated performance that plays even the most absurd moments with a dead-pan seriousness, and like Presley before her, Anderson makes for a legitimately solid foil. Manages to pay homage to the originals without getting bogged down in fan-service; if there’s a slight flagging of pacing in the final act… well that was a semi-weakness of the originals as well. So relieved that Schaffer etc. pulled this off!

Few comedy sagas have left such a lasting mark as The Naked Gun. The first film from 1988 is still one of my all-time favorites, a true benchmark of how far absurd humor can go ...
