Will push your tolerance for Irish whimsy to the breaking point, but while you could argue it’s a one-joke premise, with echoes of THE TREASURE OF SIERRE MADRE, it’s not a bad joke, and it’s nice to see a comedy that takes the effort to build to long-game punchlines (Bannen and Kelly’s naked bike rides were always the selling points, but the ultimate fate of Lizzie Quinn is sort of a comic masterpiece of bleak gallows humour). Well crafted overall by Jones, taking advantage of some stunning Irish scenery which helps give the film a modest grandeur.
