Death Wish
This remake falls flat. The 4 things that made the first one great are abset:
The reflection on culture and the role of the individual in the production of safety is lost, and any attempt to tackle this is unconvincing.
The journey into violence does not seem believable.
It lacks the visceral depiction of and oppressive large city where individuals are defenseless, and the imstituions that repress them fail to deliver the promised safety. The environment is not immersive. And the struggle against these forces is absent.
Bruce willis does not come close to the stoic and commanding presence of Charles Bronson. The gravitas that underpepinned the original is sorely missing.
