Oh man. I loved this. I honestly think the first half of this is some of the best dark comedy I've seen in a very long time. So exaggerated and ridiculous. Definitely the stronger half in my opinion. Initially, the end threw me off a little bit but thinking about what each image that confused me meant, led me to really ponder about Beau's life. He's such a sweetheart. Seemed like a cathartic journey for Ari Aster and I gotta respect a filmmaker using the art seemingly therapeutically. Don't relate too much to the Jewish guilt personally but my grandma definitely has elements that I could see shine through the mother role. An original epic that gripped me from start to finish. I stopped trying to think about the scenes' relationships to reality and began viewing the whole thing as an extended metaphor for what Beau and I reckon Ari feel and then those feelings being pushed to their most heightened point. Even though i think the last act is worse than the first, the positives of the first outweigh the negatives of the last in my opinion.
