Speed Racer

If I had seen this as a kid, if I had been 8 years old when this came out, this would’ve easily been my favorite movie of all time.  This is handily the best live-action anime adaptation ever produced and it’s not even close. The Wachowskis nailed everything. The tone, the aesthetic, the hyper-stylization, the acting energy. It was an absolute treat from start to finish.  Speaking of the start, the way the first scene was temporally layered between Speed and Rex on track was phenomenal.  Spritle and Chim Chim’s antics and B-plots were a major highlight. Spritle’s actor had the perfect level of Nickelodeon energy to match Chim Chim, they really just seem like a pair of twins.  Can’t say enough great things about the acting and direction. Everyone was just the right amount of over-the-top and campy to really sell the entire world to me. Royalton’s performance especially, he played such a good suave antagonist.  It’s a shame it took me so long to watch this movie, but I’m glad I finally did. Easy favorite.
