Sentimental Value

Ok I finished this movie. There is something there perhaps for a certain audience. Most movies when you don’t relate to them you can at least have sympathy and appreciate it. I just can’t do either with this one. Maybe it’s the language barrier. Either way it doesn’t let you connect too much with the characters. It’s very very subtle. You have to fish out information from dialogues to get to know the characters. Even then you’re not left out with much. Acting is ok. Not award worthy. Again it’s a small film, niche, and not very well done. I don’t get the hype around it. What would make this movie better? If the characters actually talked to each other. Unpacked their traumas. Unleash. Everything happens behind close doors. The daughters read the script and they realize their father is talking about them. It all happens on their minds. We get one passage from the whole script. I’d rather watch the movie they are trying to make rather than this. People say it’s visually pleasing. It’s nothing special. Simple camera techniques usual in every modern movie with the lowest of budgets.
